Delicate Details….

The ear is one of those places that you can add a small or very outspoken detail. I am the type of women that prefers a delicate detail when it comes to earrings. I think a small stud or gentle dangle can say so much about a person’s personality. This detail is usually seen by the more observant viewer. When an observer does notice I feel like it is a little secret that passes only between us. It is one of my favorite ways to express a playful and feminine gesture. I hope you like them as much as I do.

Money Monday – Savings Accounts and CD’s

Money Monday – Savings accounts

So now you know how to set up an Emergency Fund but it is to much to fit in a piggy bank. One option you could use are a Savings Account.

A Savings Account is a place to park your money that has little risk and generates a small amount of interest. Be aware of the fees that some banks will charge per month for the savings and get the lowest cost you can find. It is also important to make sure it is covered under the FDIC program so your money is protected. Another benefit you may consider is using the savings account to link to your checking account as a form of overdraft protection. This linking can save you money in the event of an error in your checking account balancing. How it works is that your bank will link your checking and savings accounts together. In the event that a transaction on your checking account will overdraft the account the bank will allow money to transfer from your savings to cover the transaction. There are limitations to how often this transfer can occur during each month so ask your banking representative about Regulation D for all the details.

Another option that you may hear of is called a CD or Certificate of Deposit. A Certificate of Deposit an account that you deposit money in with a specific timeframe that you will not withdrawal the funds while it draws interest. CD timeframes can very from 6 -24 months depending on the bank or financial institution. In the event you withdrawal the money before the specified time you will be charged a fee. The advantage to using CD’s is so that you can know how much interest you will earn, you can tier multiple CD’s to make sure funds come available if needed with out having any fees, and promote saving by making the funds let accessible to impulsive spending.

(For a professional looking pop of color)

It is no secret that the neon colors we loved in the 80’s are back in full swing. In the 80’s we had Madonna, side ponies, teased hair, rolled up jeans with scrunched socks, and slap bands. Don’t get me wrong when you are 12 this seems all normal but not at 31. What was I to do?  I wanted to rock some of these bold beauties in the here and now.  I decided it was time to do some recon. These are a few of the best looks I used to get inspired and pump up the color in my closet from work to everyday.

When I was growing up I was a tomboy. It wasn’t until a date with my then crush at a Valentine ’s Day dance that I started to embrace my feminine side. I remember shopping with my dearest friend and finding that perfectly fitted purple dress. Little did I know that moment would be a turning point in my style evolution.  It didn’t happen over night or like one of those ugly duckling makeover moments you seen in most teen movies. No, it was more like a summer breeze that blows in the soft scent of Lilac bushes when you least expect it.  As the years pass on I fall more in love with the understated and very chic versions of cocktail dresses. Nothing makes me feel more comfortable, graceful and strong then when I am wearing one of them. I hope you enjoy some of my pinterest favorites.

Money Monday – Emergency Fund

Happy Monday Everyone!

To kick off Money Monday we are going to talk about an Emergency Fund.

Think of an Emergency Fund as a life preserver. It is that little bit of cushion that you put between you and life’s craptastic moments. Things like a job loss, a sudden trip to the hospital, unexpected car repairs etc. An Emergency Fund is that rainy day fund your grandparents and parents tell you about as a kid. It is a key factor in building wealth and keeping it.

Ladies, this is one you should bookmark. It is not uncommon for a women to use the word terror when describing their experience with financial hardships. No one wants or should live with that type of fear in life. My advise is to build yourself a little nest egg no matter if you are married or single. Keep in mind I am not saying that you should hide it from your spouse.  I am saying there is nothing wrong with you being the one to provide some of your own security. Instead of buying that new dress or pair of shoes maybe you tuck that money back until you have a cushion that feels right for you. No shoes, purses, dresses or trips with ever compare to how it feels to be financially at ease.

Here are the few things you need to know about your fund.

– It needs to be at least 3-6 months of your expenses.

– It should only be used in the time of an emergency. New shoes, that smoking deal on whatever, and gifts that you feel guilty not buying do not belong in this category.

– It should be accessible but not to easily accessible. A savings account that is not connected to your checking account or money market savings are a few options. Just make sure that you can’t access it on one of those impulsive buyers high moments.

– Halt all shopping, non essential purchases and outings etc. Put in some over time or get a second job if you need to but get intense about building this fund. I mean Mach 5 with your hair on fire intense.

– Tell your kids about your goal and track your progress together. Celebrate each addition so that they can see this as part of a healthy financial lifestyle. Children need financial guidance so that when they are on their own they can not only survive but thrive.

– Get an accountability partner. For singles this could be a trusted mentor or friend, and for married couples it should be your spouse. You need someone who is honest with you and has your best interest at heart. I can’t stress this enough, having a unified financial front with your spouse will greatly increase the happiness and strength of your marriage. I am going to say it again. A unified financial front with your spouse will greatly increase the happiness and strength of your marriage. For you single ladies keep in mind that having your financial life together is a very attractive quality to worthwhile bachelors. It shows them that you can be responsible and don’t have misplaced expectations of a partnership.

I hope you enjoyed this weeks Money Monday and I am always here to answer any questions you may have. Contact me at loft83blog@gmail.com or leave a comment below.

Fourth of July fun

It is hard for me to think that it is July already! Not only do I appreciate the national importance of Fourth of July, I also feel like it marks the midway point of summer. The perfect mix of BBQ’s, friends, family, and great firework shows. This year I hope you are continuing long held traditions, starting new traditions to pass on,  and embracing your own independent side. Since, this year falls on fashion Friday I thought I would share everything I find fun on how to enjoy Fourth of July backyard BBQ style. I hope you enjoy!

I really liked how easily these invitations could be customized with the switch of a few words to fit the details of the party.

Casual elements puts you in the relaxed mood and gets you ready for some backyard treats and games.

The whole point of a party or BBQ is to enjoy the guests and give them a great experience. So I try and take simple elements and add some creativity to them. You would be suprised how putting yourself in the guests shoes can give you those fun details that everyone loves. I also give myself time to plan and prepare ahead of time so that the process is fun to me and I can ease into the celebration with the best mood. I also try and make clean up super easy and convienent for everyone. By the time the guests arrive I am more excited about them and sharing that if something is not perfect I just see it as a happy accident. 🙂
